What you will do?
The Cuban Revolution is one of the most complex processes in Cuban history. In this tour, you will discover the historic context in which the Revolution was carried out and the main results it has brought about for our country since 1959. With this aim, we will visit the Revolution Museum where we will get in touch with the main factors that unleashed the revolutionary process. Besides, we will talk about Fidel Castro’s war in the mountains and the project he had for the country. Afterwards, we will analyze the main measures taken by the Revolution in power and their impact on the transformation of Cuba. Moreover, you will learn about the group of young university students that assaulted the former Presidential Palace –nowadays Revolution museum- trying to assassinate Fulgencio Batista, the president of Cuba before the Revolution.
The museum has an excellent collection of items that belonged to different revolutionary leaders. Furthermore, you will be visiting the former offices and salons of the Presidential Palace, including the terrace from which the most important speeches were delivered in the early years of the Revolution. Besides, in the courtyard we will appreciate a variety of unique artefacts that have a lot of symbolism for Cuban history such as, the original ship Granma –the same that Fidel used for landing in Cuba from Mexico and starting the Revolution- and the remains of a U2 spy plane that was shoot down during the Cuban nuclear missile crisis.
Later on, we will walk through the Square Trece de Marzo, where I will explain you the operation of two of the most important governmental organizations: The Popular Power and the Communist Party. Then, we will stop for a snack in a cafeteria near the square where we will be able to continue our chat about the Revolution and life in Cuba.
